I was watching a video by Brenda Turner (I will link in the comments) earlier and she was talking about somatic movement. She showed how you can simply move your body spontaneously with no regard for how it looks or what someone may think. I was feeling loads of nervous tension, and she said just a few minutes would make me feel better, so I had to try it.

Now if you have ever seen me dance, you might think that I do this all the time but that is not the case. Somatic movement requires no beat or melody, you simply move however your body wants to, flailing, flapping, shaking, jumping and the list could go on and on.

So I started skipping and flinging my hands around and sure enough, I felt better almost right away. By this time, she was talking about repeating long low sounds like ‘Ohm’ and how you could cover your ears to make this sound really deep. This apparently isn’t just good for spiritual practices, but conditions your vagus nerve. When you condition your vagus nerve, your stress response is reduced, so I could definitely use more of this.

I like to make up my own recipes, so I started Ohming while doing my unusual skip and wave dance. This was starting to feel like a one person party, so I added the covering of the ears. I felt so much better that I haven’t finished Brenda’s video yet, I wanted to write this and share it with you. If you are anxious, depressed or in any other state of discontent – this can really help you and it can help you right now. Moving spontaneously doesn’t require any practice, it’s called a practice because people like to keep on doing the things that make them feel better.
